Arabia Finland Pottery Arabia Pottery's first factory was established in 1874 in northern Helsinki Finland by the Swedish parent company Rorstrand aiming towards the Russian market. In the 1940's Kaj Franck (1911 - 1989) produced a affordable elegant Scandinavian tableware design that is functional by the name of "Kilta" that is popular among collectors. A very important artist responsible for some of the most popular Mid Century Stoneware Designs as of today is Ulla Procopé (1921-1968). Some of his well known designs include the "Valencia" pattern in the 1960's and the "Ruska" pattern in production from 1978-99. In the 1970's another well known artist named Birger Kaipiainen introduced the "Paratiisi" pattern that is fairly popular to collectors. What is very notable in the 1990's were the cartoon like "Moomin Mugs" that are very valuable depending on the rarety. As of today Arabia Pottery is now owned by the Iittala Group.
